Negotiations Watch: Anne Marie Predicts Strike Authorization
October 8, 2008 by Editor.
Buried in today’s BlogStage post by Andrew Salomon we found the following snipped from his conversation with newly minted First VP Anne-Marie Johnson:”Anne-Marie Johnson, the guild’s newly elected 1st national vp and Membership First spokeswoman, told Strike Watch Tuesday she was confident the authorization would be sent to members and that members would vote in favor of it.”Salomon goes on to note that board members in New York believe the opposite, and that Unite for Strength may hold the balance of power here. The group’s leaders, including Ned Vaughn, haven’t said whether they favor a strike authorization, and, of course, there’s plenty of doubt that it would reach the 75% threshold for passage. The National Board is expected to vote at its Oct. 18 meeting on whether to send out a strike authorization referendum, after the Membership First dominated negotiating committee passed the buck on the decision. In the meantime, the AMPTP has suggested it might reduce the offer on the table or pull it entirely, depending upon the Oct. 18 board decision.
