Un-Ringing the Bell, and Why the Answer is No
October 21, 2008 by Editor.
Perhaps in the spirit of the new SAG-AFTRA non-disparagement agreement, in the past couple of days we’ve received a number of requests to remove various comments, articles and posting. It’s not the first time we’ve been asked to remove postings, and just as the answer back then was no, we’re saying no now.
This isn’t us being obstinate or refusing to go along with what we all hope is a new spirit of the times. You can’t un-ring a bell. We’re not going to try. In fact we think it may be instructive to remember how things have gone off the rails.
That having been said, some of the items may no longer be timely, so we may move some things around. But we will keep everything available in our archives, and, no, sorry, we won’t try to rewrite the past couple of years of unpleasant history, even as we hope the next few years bring much better times.

No Negotiations Watch: AMPTP to Meet With Mediator, BUT…
October 21, 2008 by Editor.
Last night we told you that the AMPTP was “considering” meeting with a federal mediator, as SAG suggested. Now we can tell you they’re going to do it.BUT, and it’s a huge “but” - we hear the meeting does not mean that the producers are going to change their position on what they call the “last, best and final” offer. So, the meeting with the mediator may amount to much less than meets the eye.As the Hollywood Reporter yesterday pointed out, the mediator in question is Juan Carlos Gonzales, the same mediator whose work didn’t lead to success in the WGA negotiations.
